The proceeds were entirely donated to Gaza Soup Kitchen (www.gazasoupkitchen.org), a local organization dedicated to providing daily hot meals to people in Gaza.
For the Palestinian people, keys symbolize the right of return and the hope of going back to their homes and lands from which they were displaced during the Nakba in 1948. Often passed down through generations, the keys represent not just the physical houses that many were forced to leave behind; they have become a symbol of Palestinian resistance and their ongoing struggle for the recognition of their rights.
The initiative is organized by Hani Almadhoun, whose family and friends reside in northern Gaza. They are the ones, facing the deliberate blockade of humanitarian aid by Israel at the borders and amid extreme need, who are cooking and organizing to ensure that the meals reach as many people as possible.
